Book Response 2: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

In the last reading response, Harry is mad at the world and everyone seems to be ignoring him or not telling him what is going on in the wizarding world.

Harry has now gone back to school.  He, along with Ron and Hermione, is wondering where Haggard, the grounds keeper, has gone. The new Defense Against the Arts teacher is from the Ministry of Magic which is like the government of the wizard world. Her name is Professor Umbrigde. She is very by the book and does not think Who Most Not Be Named is back. The first week of school, Harry get s a week of detention from Umbrigde.  She has him write lines. But unlike normal lines the pen doesn't need ink. It writes in your own blood and makes scars on your hand of the lines you are writing.

While on their way back to school, Ron, Hermione, and Harry meet Luna Lovegood.  Luna is the same age as Ginny, Ron’s sister.  Luna is a little different than everyone else.  She believes in things that no one else believes in.  She also believes in things that are almost impossible to prove they are real.

Luna’s father writes a magazine called the Quibbler.  It has random, weird articles in it. For example, Corruption in the Quidditch League: How the Tornadoes Are Taking Control is one of the articles in the copy of the Quibbler that Luna has on the train.  Hermione thinks her completely insane.  Luna does not really like Hermione telling her that she is crazy.

Harry seems to really like Luna. The first time Harry starts liking Luna is when Luna tells Harry that she believes that He Who Must Not Be Named is really back.  Luna is a very interesting character in this book.  She seems to be my favorite new character thus far in the book.  She seems to be very understanding and calm.  She can also see the animals that pull the carriages up to the school.  This year Harry can see them too. He is not sure if he is going crazy or if they are really there.

One of my favorite things that Luna says is, “Wit beyond measure is man’s greatest treasure.”  She says this to Neville Longbottom after Ginny is introducing Luna to everyone.  This shows that Luna has crazy thoughts in her head. She doesn't really care what people think abut her. She is a one of a kind girl. I really enjoy her confusing but enjoyable comments.  She is going to be an exciting character in the book.

In the photo below is Luna Lovegood. This picture is the first time Harry and his friends meet her on the carriage ride to school. She is reading the Quibbler upside down.
